Character Name: Momiji Sohma
Source: Fruits Basket ; previous game history from City of Cydonia
Personality:
At first glance, Momiji is a ball of sunshine. He’s an energetic, friendly, and very outgoing teen. He’s acts like the type of guy who hasn’t a care in the world. Momiji is full of self confidence and finds joy in the simplest of things. He faces everyday with a smile and usually heads off even the worst situation with something positive.
Momiji is childish. He sees the world in the way a small child would; filled with wonder and excitement. Normal activities are treated like games and every outing has the chance to be an adventure. He’s easily distracted and given to whimsy. He’s playful, eager to tease his friends and indulge in tasteful pranks. He laughs readily at jokes and likes physical contact. Since he can’t be close to females, he tends to drape himself over his male friends and other cursed relatives. However he still tends to be touchy with the few females in his life, delighting in holding hands and other friendly contact. This isn’t about flirting to Momiji, he just likes feeling that another person is there and his touching is his way of showing his affection.
He is a highly affectionate person. When he loves someone he loves them deeply, putting them above himself. His close friends tend to get slathered in his joy. He can and will spend large sums of cash to get them nice gifts and will always plan trips and events with a level of perfection. Forgot about White’s day? He’ll take you to a ritzy spa. Want to go to a beach? He’ll rent out a summer home and bring plenty of fireworks and snacks. Momiji enjoys taking care of the people in his life and holds them as being precious. He’s willing to put himself on the line for his loved ones and will do what he must to keep them happy.
Perhaps a direct side effect of his past, Momiji is very empathic. He identifies with people quickly and can be affected by their experiences. He’s very thoughtful, despite the few who get to see it. He delves deep into the inner workings of the people around him, always trying to figure them out. Momiji also displays a surprisingly high level of maturity. He may act like a kid but he’s emotionally wise beyond his years and skillful at problem solving. Though the things he says seem random or nonsensical, he knows the best approach to any situation and only chooses to show his spirited side until he can no longer.
Underneath all that cheer and brightness hides his negative self. Momiji’s life has been hard and deep down the events of his past have affected him. His parents and their decisions about their family have left him torn between bitterness and sorrow. Though he loves them both, he’s been left feeling abandoned and uncared for. Being part of a cursed family has stunted his emotional ties. He can’t become too close to people outside of the secret in fear of what will become of Akito’s wrath. He’s caught between his family secret and a chance at a normal life. He’s realized that the person he loves will never love him, and he worries about his chance at a future with anyone.
Momiji has been exposed to pain since his youth. He knows that there is a darker side to the world, but chooses to act ignorant to it. It’s easier for him to make believe with the sunshine then think about the cruelty in front of him. So he keeps most of his problems well hidden and all the ‘bad’ emotions bottled up. He’s not easy to anger or even upset, because he’ll just ignore the issue and cheerfully change the subject. However, when he does suffer a loss or slight that he allows himself to feel, he takes it hard and quite personally.
Now all of this doesn’t mean the kind exterior is just an act. He does truly care about people and does look for the best in everyone. He just tends to exaggerate his 'good' qualities in order to keep with appearances.
His personality hasn’t changed much from his stay in Cydonia. The most notable difference is an increased sense of suspension and paranoia. This comes through by a wariness of new situations or places and an apprehension to technology. He also has a better sense of responsibility after being the main caretaker for two children for several months.

[Canon]
Momiji was born to one of the members of the Sohma clan, a large and affluent Japanese family. While his father was in university he met a German woman whom he fell in love with. After marriage they conceived their first child, a son, and it was then that their joy was shattered. When the mother went to hold her newborn, he turned into a rabbit. Momiji’s mother couldn’t deal with his curse and rejected her son. She couldn’t touch or be around him, and never showed him any love. She outright stated her hatred for the boy and was slowly driven to the brink of insanity by the mere thought of being his mother. A few years passed and in order to help her heal, one of the cursed members of the family-Hatori, gifted with memory powers- offered to erase Momiji from her mind. Momiji’s father asked his son to let this happen, telling him it was the only way for his mother to live again and promising to love him enough for two parents. Momiji gave his permission and witnessed his mother having those memories removed. It was this event, more so than his curse, that would be the driving force of his life.
After he was removed from his mother’s memories, Momiji was sent to live by himself in one the houses on the Sohma estate. There he was raised by servants, keeping in contact with his father but living apart from his family lest he upset his mother. He went to an upscale elementary school with the other Sohma children, and attended an all boy’s middle school with equal prestige. He grew up a youthful looking lad, getting easily mistaken for someone much younger and was often mistaken for female. Most of his life, Momiji simply acted the part of a child, even going so far as to wear feminine clothing to look younger and appear more likable. During his late middle school years he took to visiting his father’s work place, a company building the Sohma’s owned and his father managed, to not only spend time with his distant dad but to sneak glances of his mother. It was during this time his sister was born and he began watching her from afar. During one of the evenings that he was watching the family he couldn’t have, Momiji ran into Tohru Honda, a worker in the building. Tohru was one of the few people outside the family who knew of the curse and Momiji was overjoyed to meet her. In his excitement, he yelled out in German, kissed her, and ran away before his parents could catch him.
It was shortly after this he showed up at the high school’s festival to see Tohru and his cousins. After latching on to all of his cousins, he set his sights on Tohru. Having someone know about the curse must mean they could be his personal hug victim and from then on out, thanks to Tohru’s ready acceptance of her new role, he clung to her side. Tohru would be invited to the Sohma estate in the next weeks, where Momiji would reveal the family doctor’s secrets to the girl, giving us the first glance at how much he took notice of his family members.
In the next few chapters Momiji would pop in and out of Tohru’s life, starting to garner a crush on her and eventually offering a trip to the family spa as a gift for White’s Day. After tricking his way into (platonically) sleeping in her bed, Momiji would reveal his actual age to Tohru and the fact he was transferring to her high school to the rest of his family.
Once at the high school he caused a big stir by wearing the girl’s uniform, with shorts instead of a skirt, and refusing the change. His cousin Haru, defended him from the school council. After Haru threatens the council president, he warned the main characters about the presence of Akito, the ‘god’ of the Sohma’s, which prompts his cousin Yuki to go looking for Tohru after she runs off. In the next several chapters, Momiji again just plays a minor role in the series. He plays games with the main cast and acts as an informant about the Sohma relatives for Tohru. Around the 23 chapter he reveals past concerning his mother to Tohru after running into her while visiting Tohru.
It’s much later on when Momiji decides to send everyone on a summer trip and forces Tohru and his cousins to come with him to a summer home. While he has the family there, Akito comes to visit. During his stay, Akito comes looking for Tohru but instead meets with Momiji. Worried that ‘god’ will hurt Tohru, Momiji interferes and tries to send Akito home. He’s beaten for his troubles, alerting Tohru to the commotion and getting her involved. He gets the older family members to save Tohru, but feels guilty that she is hurt. The two take the night to reconcile, and by morning Momiji is back to his usually happy self.
His next influence on the plot comes when Tohru makes another visit to the main estate and is shown in by Momiji’s younger sister. She discovers that the little girl had been watching Momiji, wanting him as a brother figure in her life. Tohru shares this with Momiji, who cries in delight that his sister wants to meet him, even though it would not be allowed and he can never tell her the truth. He offers to play a song on his violin in thanks, and helps Tohru reach her goal of meeting one of the elusive Zodiac members, Kureno. Later, when Tohru needs a tape delivered to Kureno, Momiji does on her behalf, unknowingly setting a romance between the elusive man and Tohru’s friend in motion.
Momiji then fades back into the background, not being a major influence on the plot. He’s still around goofing off with the other characters and offering his knowledge on the Sohma family, but he takes a backseat to the unfolding love story between the main characters. Near the end of the series, Momiji hits a major growth spurt. He stops dressing like a girl and starts resembling the 16 year old he is. It’s now that he begins to show a level of maturity; though he still acts bubbly, he lets his introspective side show more frequently. One day after hitting his growth spurt, he goes home with Tohru for a ‘catch up’ dinner. There he lectures his cousin to start showing his feelings for Tohru before she is stolen away. This effectively shows that Momiji is ready to give up on his love for Tohru and let her choose the best path. His canon pull point is as he leaves the house his cousins and Tohru are staying at.
[Cydonia]
Momiji is kidnapped from his world to an unnamed post-apocalyptic one. In this world a war had broken out and after much time, machines had taken over what was left. One machine, an AI system called S.A.M.M. fixed up a destroyed city and renamed it Cydonia. The AI began kidnapping people from around the universe to repopulate the world. However this world and specifically the city were not safe for human in hesitance. Roaming science experiments, malfunctioning robots, creatures evolved with the aid of radiation and low food supplies made Cydonia more of a nightmarish landscape rather than the utopia S.A.M.M. tried to bill it as.
When Momiji first arrives in Cydonia, the inhabitance are restricted to a small portion of the city. Metal walls keep them in an area that only hosted a hotel-like structure and a few abandoned buildings.
Momiji was surprised to find that his younger cousin Kisa was already in the city and had been for several months. Kisa informed Momiji of what’s going on and the two started living together. The two were from different time lines and it took a few days for Momiji to catch Kisa up on what had been happening in their world as well to get used to the idea that people in Cydonia already knew about the curse thanks to a publicized incident. It was in the first few days that Momiji, trying to comfort the shaken Kisa, made a promise to never leave the young girl alone and the internal vow to protect her in this strange place.
Not long after his arrival, Kisa invites a friend to come live with the cousins. Dende (Dragon Ball Z) has been in the city longer than Kisa and had originally came there from a being trapped on space station. He had been trapped with Gokudera (Katekyo Hitman Reborn) who had became his ‘parent’ when the two were brought to Cydonia. Just after Momiji’s arrival, Gokudera went missing. Afraid to leave the child alone in this dangerous world, the Sohmas decided to take in the little alien until his ‘mom’ came back.
Over the next several weeks, Momiji got to know the other inhabitants. This included Dante (Devil May Cry) and Dean Winchester (Supernatural), two men who had been acting as guardians for Kisa. Dante promised to help take care of the Sohma cousins while in the city, while Dean began to act as a mentor and brother figure for Momiji. It was also in these weeks that Momiji would meet Dende’s friend Goku (Dragon Ball Z), and Hermione (Harry Potter). These two would become Momiji’s closest friends in the city.
After about a month, Gokudera returned to the city and Dende began to split his time between him and the Sohma household. It was not very long after that mysterious re-arrival that the citizens of Cydonia began to suspect something is about to happen. A conversation with Goku, informed Momiji that most of the supernatural and alien inhabitants of the city are on edge and sensing something is coming.
It’s not very long after that that everyone woke up one morning in a different section of the city. This section was still surrounded by metal walls but is much larger and has better access to supplies. No one knows how they arrived here but can’t find any safe way out. The city has only one place not walled in. A small section in the wall leads into a still destroyed portion of the city. This section goes on for miles and the citizens decide against exploring further until they can gather enough supplies. Their new home also came with several ‘helper’ robots. The small, humanoid robots roam the fixed parts of the city doing menial tasks such as cleaning.
Momiji spent most of his time here playing babysitter for Kisa and Dende while the other inhabitants looked for supplies and work on plans. The plan that came into play was to have Dende and some of the science buffs try to create a set of Dragon Balls in Cydonia so they can all be wished back to their original homes. However the plan failed, and just after the failure S.A.M.M. began to malfunction. Supplies began to go missing and the electricity shut off. The only food left in the city was found to be poisoned with a hallucinogenic that caused several inhabitants to become unhinged. Momiji was not affected by the poisoning but his friends were, leading to a standoff between several of the city’s fighters that left Dende injured.
Supplies and electricity were returned to the city after a week. With an injured Dende being under Gokudera’s constant care and Kisa left to some other recovering friends, Momiji began to take up the role of exploring the destroyed part of the city for further supplies and clues to a way out. He was always in the company of an experience fighter; in the off chance they were attacked. He and Goku developed plans to research the event that destroyed the city, which Momiji passed to Hermione to complete.
However, the research is not able to be completed as only a few days later the entire city comes under attack. Malfunctioning robots programmed to attack any biological being take over and try to exterminate the new citizens. Momiji, who had recently gone back to his babysitting duties, was separated from Kisa and Dende during the first wave of the attack. Momiji was injured in the shoulder before he could make in to someplace safe. It would be from that point, as Momiji attempted to contact his charges, that he would be brought to Einmal.
Abilities/Special Powers/Non average skills: [Please note that any god-tier abilities will be nerfed down to a reasonable level. This is also your space for talking about any odd quirks of existence such as immortality, non aging, living despite a condition that would leave other dead, etc. All things that are deviations from normal, average human abilities. Also, if your character is bringing in any enchanted items, please list them and their abilities as well.]
Transformation- Momiji’s part in the Sohma family curse causes him to transform into a small rabbit whenever one of a few conditions are met. 1) Momiji is embraced by someone of the opposite biological sex. 2) Momiji is ill or exhausted. 3) Momiji is under significant stress. The curse is not triggered if the person embracing him a biological female also under the Sohma curse or a god.
[Game Specific]
Character class: [See http://eswareinmalooc.dreamwidth.org/1674.html for the list. If you want a class that is not on the list, please describe it here!] Princess
Why your character would be that class: Momiji has a lot of the ‘traditional’ princess qualities. He’s fair of heart, ridiculously compassionate, and very nonjudgmental. He’s willing to show kindness to the people who’ve hurt him and is very empathic to the people around him. He also fits in with the traditional beauty requirements; in the series he’s noted by several characters for his above average looks.
Momiji also fits into some of the negative tropes associated with royal ladies. He can be vain and bratty. He’s proud of his appearance, though not to the extent of putting others down or lording over others. His brattiness comes through in his way of trying to make decisions for others and his tendency to aggravate people who are already on edge.
Powers/skills to be gained by being that class: N/A

The magic, the old world charm, and the castle looming the distance reminded Momiji of the stories he used to tell his young charges before bed. In most of his stories, he’d cast his young cousin in the role of a princess and it was a little amusing to find himself the one stuck with a ruffled dress and crown. But the amusement was overshadowed by bitterness he felt any time he thought of the children he had left behind. The fairytale world was one he knew they would have loved; even now he could imagine how wide Kisa’s eyes would get when she stood in the shadow of the castle towers.
He sat in his room at the Drunk Duck, dress abandoned for more practical trousers and little tiara held in his grasp. This wasn’t a bad place, all things considered. There wasn’t any technology around here and it made him feel relieved to not have that to fear. The food was better that what he had been able to scavenge in Cydonia and there was, blessedly, normal people here rather than just frightened refugees. Part of him was grateful for the change. How many times had he wished to leave that AI’s rule?
He’d gotten what he wished for and it made him feel sick. By coming here he had broken his promise to Kisa, the same one Momiji had repeated when they’d been moved, when the food had run out, when the illnesses started. He had sworn to stay with her and to get them both out. And here he was, sitting safe and full in a peaceful place while she had been left to war and famine.

-Video-
[The video is shows only Momiji’s head and shoulders. He has a tiara stuck in his mussed hair and a confused expression on his face.]
I don’t really mind it all that much. I mean I think girl’s clothes are a lot cuter than guy’s clothes and I wear them a lot. But, um.
[He pulls back, letting the puffy lilac gown he’s wearing come into view. He smoothes the skirt out and sighs.]
Why am I in a dress? I don’t remember putting one on this morning.
Extra: I notice in the FAQ it says characters can know two languages without explanation but there needs to be reason for more than that. Momiji actually would speak three languages as of coming to Einmal. He is canonically bilingual and shown to use both languages interchangeably. He grew up with one native Japanese parent and one native German parent, and though he has not seen his mother in many years he can speak both languages fluently. Due to staying in Cydonia and the lessons that most Japanese students are required to take in school, Momiji can speak English. His English is heavily accented and he’s not completely fluent but he can speak enough to communicate with others.

Log sample: [This is a prose entry that would be used as a log. Please use something unique to this game's setting, aka, don't just paste in fanfic! Typical prompts for this include your characters reaction to arrival or your character encountering something native to this world.
Orb sample: [This is an entry that would be posted to the community at large. Again, unique to this setting! Typical prompts include introduction post, reacting to current events, discovering an ability of your character's class.]
-Video-
[The video is shows only Momiji’s head and shoulders.

Name: Momiji Sohma
Age: 16
Canon: Fruits Basket; Manga
Pull Point: Ch. 111
Background Info:
History:
The world of Fruits Basket is very similar to ours, marked by only one difference. There exists a family in their world that was cursed to transform into members of the Chinese Zodiac when embraced by a member of the opposite sex. This curse happened within each generation, no two people would be afflicted by the same animal, though it was exceeding rare for all 13 to be living at the same time. The cursed family members were ruled by a ‘god’, a being that would be the center of their universe. This family is the Sohma family, currently ruled by the ’god’ Akito and one of the first generations to have all Zodiac members present.
Momiji was born to one of the members of the Sohma clan, a large and affluent Japanese family. While his father was in university he met a German woman whom he feel in love with. After marriage they conceived their first child, a son, and it was then that their joy was shattered. When the mother went to hold her newborn, he turned into a rabbit. Momiji’s mother couldn’t deal with the curse and rejected her son. She couldn’t touch him, be around him, and never showed him any love. She outright stated her hatred for the boy and was slowly driven to the brink by the mere thought of being his mother. It was this event, more so then even his curse, that would be the driving force of his life.
After he was removed from his mother’s memories, Momiji was sent to live by himself in on the houses on the Sohma estate. There he was raised by servants, keeping in contact with his father but living apart from his family lest he upset his mother. He went to a upscale elementary school with the other Sohma children, and attended an all boy’s middle school with equal prestige. He grew up a youthful looking lad, getting easily mistaken for someone much younger and more female. Most of his life he simply acted out the part, even wearing feminine clothing. During his late middle school years he took to visiting his father’s work place, a company building the family owned, to not only spend time with his distant dad but to sneak glances of his mother-and the little sister that he was being kept from. During one of the evenings that he was watching the family he couldn’t have, Momiji ran into Tohru Honda, a worker in the building. Tohru was one of the few people outside the family who knew of the curse and Momiji was overjoyed to meet her. In his excitement, he exclaimed in German, kissed her, and went along his merry way before his parents could catch him.
It was shortly after this he showed up at the high school’s festival to see Tohru and his cousins. After latching on to all of his realities, he set his sights on Tohru seeking hugs. Having someone know about the curse must mean they could be his personal hug victim and from then on out, thanks to Tohru’s ready acceptance of her new role, he clung to her side. Tohru would be invited to the Sohma estate in the next weeks, where Momiji would reveal the family doctor’s secrets to the normal girl, giving us the first glance at his introspective self.
In the next few chapters Momiji would pop in and out of Tohru’s life, starting to garner a crush on her and eventually offering her a trip to the family spa as a gift for White’s Day. After tricking his way into sleeping in her bed, Momiji would reveal his actual age to Tohru and the fact he was transferring to their high school to everyone.
Once at the high school he caused a big stir by wearing the girl’s uniform, with shorts instead of a skirt, and refusing the change. His cousin Haru, and the closest friend he has, defended him from the school council. He warns the main characters about the presence of Akito, the ‘god’ of the Sohma’s, which prompts his cousin Yuki to go looking for Tohru after she runs off. In the next several chapters, Momiji again just bides his time playing a minor role in the series.
During his stay, Akito comes looking for Tohru but instead meets Momiji.
When Tohru needs a tape delivered to Kureno, Momiji does so on her behalf, unknowingly setting a romance between the elusive man and Tohru’s friend in motion.
Momiji then fades back into the background, not being a major influence on the plot. He’s still around goofing off with the other characters and offering his knowledge on the Sohma family, but he as take a backseat to the unfolding love story. Near the end of the series, Momiji hits a growth spurt. He stops dressing like a girl and starts resembling the 16 year old he is. It’s now that he begins to show a level of maturity, though he still acts bubbly he lets his introspective side show more frequently. He lectures his cousin to start showing his feelings for Tohru before she is stolen away. This effectively shows that Momiji is ready to give up on his love for Tohru and let her choose the best path. Him leaving Tohru’s home after this discussion, is where he’s getting ported from.
He can and will spend large sums of cash to get them nice gifts and will always plan trips and events will a level of perfection. Forgot about White’s day? He’ll take you to a ritzy spa. Want to go to a beach? He’ll call up a summer home and bring plenty of fireworks and snacks. Momiji enjoys taking care of the people in his life and holds them as being precious. He’s willing to put himself on the line for his loved ones and will do what he must to keep them happy.
Perhaps a direct side effect of his life, Momiji is very empathic. He identifies with people quickly and can be affected by their experiences. He’s very thoughtful, despite the few see it. He delves deep into the workings of the people around him, trying to figure them out. Momiji also displays a level of high maturity.
Now all of this doesn’t mean the kind exterior is just an act. He does truly care about people and does look for the best in everyone. He just tends to exaggerate his 'good' qualities in order to keep with appearances.
Game Specific:
Arcana: Priestess
Justification: The Priestess symbolizes moral judgement, femininity, and inner knowledge. Through out his canon, Momiji’s major role in the series is that of an informant. He is usually the one telling other characters not only about events, but about the inner workings of those around him. He uses all of that knowledge he’s gathered from watching his family and friends, to pass his own form of judgement. Often it’s used to unravel what he believes they must be feeling, but at time times it comes out as more of a moral sentencing. When he speaks to Kyo and Akito, he passes his judgement and tries to offer solutions to make them into better people.
Momiji also carries a lot of traditional feminine traits, acting more on emotion than logic and presenting himself as a caring, family oriented person. Outwardly, he takes on a feminine appearance that he often tries to exaggerate.
Momiji shares many of the negative aspects with the arcana as well. He is rash; dragging his family and friends along with his whims and often acting on his emotions before thinking any plan through. He can be selfish, entering events to further his own agenda. He shows his superficial side as well, through his large assortment of specialty clothing and comments that suggest an initial love for things at face value.

Video Post
[Though he started shooting, Momiji's attention is on the nearest window. He's watching the sun rise pensively.]
Is everyone okay after what happened last night? That one was a lot stronger than the ones we've fought before. I wonder why. Anybody got any ideas?
[He shakes his head, turning back to the camera. He starts to smile.]
But for those of you that are okay, we should do something. I think we deserve down time after a big battle, don't you? Of course you do! So meet me at the big park! The one near the grade school. We'll play some games, I think we should do badminton, and we can have a picnic. If you don't come you better be really hurt. Otherwise you're just weird.
Third Person Sample:
Momiji biked down main street, back pack slung over his shoulder and the front basket filled with supplies he'd picked up from the pharmacy. He was on his way to finish off his shopping list; last stop was to pick some more arrows for the bow he'd been using lately. He was still trying to get used to the weapon. Not only was learning how to handle a bow a little difficult, but trying to get over using a weapon was proving hard for him.
Momiji wasn't made to be a fighter. Even when he had went to Kazuma's dojo, he'd never been good at martial arts. Momiji wouldn't call himself a pacifistic, he never made a move to stop any of Haru's fights, but he wasn't someone who would try to take confrontations to a physical level. Being here, where fighting was a part of survival, was pushing him further than he cared to admit.
Knowing he wasn't alone in this helped. He may not really know the other people brought to this place, but there was a connection between him and the other Persona users. It wasn't the same as the connection between him and the other cursed Sohmas- which he was still uneasy about considering the curse seemed to have no effect here- but it was enough to help him retain some of his cheer.
He parked and chained his bike in front of the line of shops that made up the strip mall, waving to the few familiar faces he saw. He made his way to the shop they'd been using to buy weapons, taking a deep breath before he opened the door. He was still unsure about what they were doing, still afraid that each night's work would end with someone getting too badly hurt for them to save, but he couldn't stop. As long as he was needed to fight, he was connected to these people. And as long as he was connected, he believed he could keep himself intact.
